Customer Rating: Summary: Saved my camera. Comment: I recently bought this locally for a canoe camping trip. On our 2nd day we got caught in a tree and flipped. Water was moving fairly fast. I had the camera in this bag hooked to my life vest. I went completely under water, then had to guide the upturned canoe full of gear to a nearby gravel bar to dump the water, etc. I remember the thing being tossed around pretty good during this time. As soon as we were under control I even took several pictures. My only gripe is that bag is a little large for our little Nikon S51, but it's still worth it. It can be hard to position it with the bag tight against the lens. Here's an extra tip: I'm glad I had it hooked to my vest and not just around my neck. Although I was wearing a sun hat w/ chin strap (which I didn't lose either), it could've floated up off of me and been lost.
Customer Rating: Summary: Offsetting the idiots 1 star! Comment: Forget this Erson guy! Takes a non-waterproof camera snorkeling then blames this product when it got destroyed? COME ON MAN! I don't even have one of these yet, but I can EASILY see it was meant for protecting equipment from occasional water drops, not for constantly being in the water moving it around non stop.
Customer Rating: Summary: Works, until it leaks. Good for protecting camera NEAR, but not necessarily IN the water. Comment: I took this on a trip to Hawaii. It worked fine snorkeling at the surface (I did not dive with this thing) for 3 outings into near-shore snorkeling. However, on the third day of use, I found my camera unresponsive. The case had filled with water & ruined a $200 camera.
The manufacturer had told me this was usable to a depth of 15 feet. Well, yes, it is... unless it leaks.
In summary, it's good to protect the camera when near water. It should work (if you are cautious to check it often) for snorkeling. Just be aware that it will likely eventually let you down. For the price, it may be worth trying. Considering the price of cameras, you may want to take the risk with a cheap camera.
Oh, also you need to keep the camera up against the case to get clear shots.
Customer Rating: Summary: Camera Dry Bag Works Great Comment: Takes some time getting used to opening and closing the bag, but aside from purchasing a waterproof camera, this is the best way to keep a camera dry in constant spray and splash.
