Customer Rating: Summary: Awesome Beans Comment: This is an awesome deal. Rich and plump and large beans. Yummy. One quarter of the price paid at the grocery store. Highly recommended. Thank you for providing such a great deal.
Customer Rating: Summary: Get out the Map. Comment: Because it would seem that Uganda [where my "Bourbon Madagascar" beans came from] is now either part of Madagascar, or maybe it detached itself from the continent and it's now one of those tropical isles in the Indian Ocean where vanilla is reputedly grown. Who knew?
These beans just aren't what I expect from bourbon vanilla pods. There is no hint of romance in these beans, no taste of the exotic east. They are muddy and uninteresting and certainly not what I'm looking for.
They are the bargain too good to be true that is.
Botanical note: Bourbon vanilla or Bourbon-Madagascar vanilla, produced from V. planifolia plants introduced from the Americas, is the term used for vanilla from Indian Ocean islands such as Madagascar, the Comoros, and Réunion, formerly the Île Bourbon.

As an essential ingredient for making crème brûlée, vanilla ice cream, and many other dishes, nothing beats a quality vanilla bean. Some recipes call for splitting the bean and using only the tiny black vanilla seeds contained in the bean. Place used and dried vanilla beans in a few cupfuls of sugar. After a few days, you will have delicious vanilla sugar to use in your cookie and cake recipes.
