Summary: best book I've read in a long time...
Comment: You probably wouldn't be reading this book if you were not a fan of the Jon and Kate plus 8 show. It is an amazing book, beautifully written, and extremely informative. I recommend this book to EVERYONE. It is amazing, and so is this family.

Summary: Loved the book! : from mom of 6 children
Comment: I loved The book Multiple Blessings. I have 6 children and struggle with all the organizational changes that seem to take place in a big growing family amongst the other mental and emotional challenges.I was greatly encouraged hearing about how God has worked in their life. I think that Jon and Kate are a perfect match and it is good that they have the courage to share their faith and give God the glory for what he has done in thier life and the life of their children. I would not want to be watched every minute while trying to go through life ,and I feel bad that people somehow expect that just because they decide to share their life in that way(TVshow) to encourage others , they somehow have to then be perfect in every way. They only need worry about God ,each other, and their beautiful children. I enjoy both of their personalities, and it is quite obvious how much they love each other , even though they go back and forth with each other . It is actually part of what makes them so enchanting. Keep living life Jon and Kate plus your eight!

Summary: Unpleasant, with the occasional snide remark
Comment: I asked for this book for Christmas as I have really enjoyed the show. The stories about the pregnancy and the babies are sweet enough, but the rudeness makes the cringe factor off the chart. From the people who tried to help remodel her home to the volunteers who gave up their time, Kate comes across as an ungrateful shrew. I don't think she understands how badly she comes across. The scriptures don't compensate enough. She'll come close to an epiphany about her behavior then say, "Oh, but it's all about taking care of the babies, keeping them healthy, etc." I found the Duggar book much more gracious and satisfying. Check this book out of the library if you must.

Summary: I'm A Fan - But Kate Needs To Learn Some Respect
Comment: Before I begin, let me say that I have been a huge fan of the show, but as a mother I have particularly been a huge fan of Kate's. She is smart, funny and makes me laugh. Yes she is controlling and can be overbearing with John, but she's real and I like her (or I did). So...when our family ran into the entire crew in Hawaii this summer in Wailea I sat back and watched with interest and awe at how the family interacted. I was mesmerized by the children who are beautiful and extremely well behaved. Unfortunately I can not say the same about Kate.

At first I chalked it up to a bad day for her. One afternoon by the pool she was repeatedly rude to the crew and the staff of the hotel and when a young fan approached her with a big smile and said "my mom and I love you show" she screamed loudly to the crew "NOT NOW, NOT NOW, please get these people away from me !!" Hmmm...ok, I've been there. I've definitely lost my cool and regretted it, so I tried to be sympathetic. But then again over the course of multiple days I saw the same kind of ugliness coming from Kate over and over. I don't have a high expectation from reality tv stars in general, but this was really sad to watch.

While I'm sure it's got to be tough to be constantly be pulled at. She needs to understand that if she doesn't want fans and all of the trapping that come with FREE vacations in $1500/night suites (yes - the Grand Wailea ain't cheap) then you need to suck it up and deal with it.

I love the show and enjoyed the book - but Kate needs to get a grip and understand that she has now chosen to be a working mother. That work is her show and dealing with her fans. If she doesn't like it, then rent a house and have a private vacation away from it all. Oh wait...they'd probably have to pay for that themselves...

Summary: A great lesson in parenting...
Comment: I've followed the story of the Gosselin family since their first 1-hour special on the Discovery channel, so it seemed very natural for me to read this book. What I didn't realize was the amount of emotion that's absent from the TV show that pours through in this book. I respected Jon and Kate very much before reading this, but now they're practically my heroes!

When Kate wrote about some of the ways in which she knew she had to balance herself when providing attention to her 8 children, all the while feeling internally guilty at times for not being able to give each of them 100% of herself at all times, I found it both gut-wrenching and completely logical all at once. I believe that whether you have 1 child or 17 it's just as important to promote independence in the younger generation as it is to occasionally indulge them. Jon and Kate seem to have this down to a science and they did it all in a "trial by fire" of sorts. Bravo to them!

I sincerely hope that they will share more of their stories over time. And it's also my hope that my husband and I can one day be half the parents that the Gosselin's are today.

Editorial Reviews:

In Multiple Blessings, Kate Gosselin shares the gripping details of her rollercoaster ride of emotional highs and lows when she discovered she and her husband, Jon, would be expecting sextuplets while still basking in the light of their twin girls' toddlerhood. Strongly encouraged to consider selective reduction for the sake of both mother and babies, she and Jon instead decided to accept the extreme challenge God had handed them. After suffering the long and winding road of infertility, the young couple felt stressed but blessed as they fought valiantly to help their babies survive the fight for their lives. Kate reveals excerpts from her private journal as she describes the daily struggle to carry the babies for thirty weeks. In addition to their uphill medical battle, the family suffered many emotional setbacks such as the loss of Jon's job, forcing the pair to look to God as their sole provider and sustainer of life.

After the miraculous birth, the couple coped with months of neonatal intensive care for their newborns as well as Kate's physical recovery from such complete and prolonged bed rest. Later as the entire family of ten finally arrived home reeling with exhaustion, they still managed to feed, bathe, clothe, and monitor the health of their fragile infants as a steady parade of necessary and helpful volunteers turned their home and family life into a public arena.

The young family lived moment to moment at first, not knowing what each new day would bring and how they would survive on such depleted sleep, money, and emotional reserves. However, as the months progressed, they grew into the next stage of development, proudly letting go of yesterday and looking forward to a brighter and ever-changing tomorrow. Their small home was soon filled to capacity with six cribs, six bouncy seats, several changing tables, never-ending piles of laundry, tubs of colorful toys, stacks of diapers, cartons of formula, rows and rows of bottles, bibs and pacifiers, two triplet strollers, six car seats, and so on. Yes, life was hectic and cramped, but with each major milestone Jon and Kate rejoiced at the miracles that unfolded around them. The crew of six growing babies along with their proud big sisters, Madelyn and Cara, did their part to fill those rooms with squawking, squealing, laughing, and of course, a healthy dose of crying. Kate and Jon eventually came out of the fog of the first precarious two years feeling eternally grateful for the love and support of family, friends, community, and indeed a nation. More important, they felt the ever present hand of a faithful God upholding them and giving them just enough strength and courage to take one day at a time.
